A draconian directive from the European Union is going to prohibit us from using numerous medicinal remedies made from plants that have been used for thousands of years and are free of side effects associated with modern drugs derived from petrochemistry. Hundreds of European herbs are threaten as well as all plants used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and all those used in African and Indian medicine (Ayurveda).
This is the new Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (THMPD) – also called Directive 2004/24/EC – which will come into force after the 30th of April 2011 and impose a new approval procedure for therapeutic preparations made from plants.
